Care For Young People
What is child and adolescent psychiatry?
Child and adolescent psychiatry is the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of mental health conditions in children and adolescents, such as ADHD, anxiety, depression and behavior concerns. Care looks at the young person in the context of family, school and development.
We see children from age 5 through adolescence. Our provider brings 12 years of pediatric nursing experience to every visit, and welcomes family input in building a plan that fits your child.
Treatment may include medication when it’s a good fit, along with guidance for home routines, sleep and coping skills, and coordination with your child’s therapist or pediatrician.

A Partnership With Parents

Every child has hard days. It may be time to talk with a psychiatric provider when changes last for weeks, or start getting in the way of school, friendships or family life.
- Ongoing sadness, irritability or withdrawal from friends and activities
- Worry or fears that are hard to calm
- Trouble focusing, sitting still or finishing schoolwork
- Frequent anger, outbursts or defiance
- Changes in sleep, appetite or school performance

Questions
Child & Adolescent Psychiatry FAQs
What age do you start seeing children?
We treat anyone age 5 and older: children, adolescents and adults.
Do parents attend the appointments?
Yes, parents and caregivers are part of care for children and adolescents. For younger children, a parent or guardian joins the visits. For adolescents, we follow Washington State law on minors’ privacy. Most adolescents are comfortable with their parents being involved, and if an adolescent asks for privacy, we respect it.
How long are appointments for children and adolescents?
The first psychiatric evaluation takes about 60 minutes. Follow-up visits take about 30 minutes, in person in Bellevue or by telehealth.
Will my child be put on medication?
Not necessarily. Medication is one option, and it’s only recommended when the benefits outweigh the risks for your child. We explain the choices and possible side effects, and decisions are made together with you.
Is NeuroStar® TMS available for teenagers?
Yes. NeuroStar® Advanced Therapy is indicated as an adjunct for the treatment of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) in adolescent patients (15-21). Sessions take place at our Bellevue office.
Can my child be seen by telehealth?
Yes. Visits for children and adolescents are available by secure video anywhere in Washington State, as well as in person in Bellevue. A parent or guardian joins for younger children.
Do you offer ADHD testing for children?
Yes. We offer ADHD testing for children and adolescents.
Can you help with school forms or a 504 plan?
Yes. We can help with school forms and with documentation for a 504 plan.
